JAMMU, Dec 18: Uncertainty prevails over the exams being conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and several exams have been postponed as the vacant post of the PSC Chairman has not been filled since last month.
The previous PSC Chairman retired on 19th of November 2023 after attaining the age of superannuation. The previous PSC Chairman, Satish Chander, was from Andhra Pradesh.
“All the exams being conducted by the PSC in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir have been postponed,” Additional Secretary of PSC and Controller of Examination, Girdhari Lal Sharma, informed Rising Kashmir.
First all the exams being conducted by the PSC were postponed till 17th of December 2023, but now these exams have been postponed till January 2024, as the post of PSC Chairman has still been lying vacant.
Pertinently, exams for promotions in different departments were scheduled to be held in November, December and January next year. Now, they all stand postponed.
“The exams supposed to be conducted by PSC in different categories depends upon the appointment of Commission’s Chairman,” the Controller of Exams said.
If the PSC Chairman is appointed in the next few days, then we can take a call on conducting exams, GL Sharma said, while adding, the exams can only be conducted under different categories once we have a Chairman in place.
