Ganderbal, July 14: Massive protests broke out in the Safapora area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday following the alleged murder of a 28-year-old woman. The family members and locals have accused a close relative of the victim of being involved in the crime.Hundreds of residents, including civil society members, gathered in the locality, holding placards and chanting slogans demanding immediate justice. The emotionally charged demonstrators urged authorities to take strict legal action and initiate a transparent, time-bound investigation into the incident.“This tragedy has shaken our entire locality. We need immediate and fair action,” said a grieving protester, holding a placard that read, “Justice for our sister.”In response to the growing unrest, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, reached the protest site and assured the crowd that the case was being treated with utmost seriousness.“Justice will be served. Anyone found guilty will face the law,” SSP Poswal told protestors, adding that investigations were underway. The SSP’s assurance brought some relief, leading to the peaceful dispersal of the protestors. However, residents emphasized the need for a speedy probe and cautioned against any delays, warning that public trust in the system hinges on visible and timely justice.
