Gives govt two months for corrective measures
Jammu, Apr 04: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, today directed the government to take corrective measures to maintain the dignity, privilege, and protocol of Members of the Legislative Assembly, giving a two-month timeframe for compliance.
The Speaker issued these directions while concluding a Short Duration Discussion on the last day of the Assembly session.
MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta initiated the discussion on the privileges, dignity, and protocol of the august House and its members, stating that the dignity of MLAs has been compromised. He also pointed out that MLAs are not taken into confidence while drafting development plans for their respective constituencies.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary assured the members that the dignity of the members is the government's prime concern. He also said the government always takes serious note of complaints registered by MLAs and assured strong action against officers who breach the privileges of the members.
Chairman of the Privilege Committee, Nizam-ud-din Bhat, and Hasnain Masoodi also participated in the discussion.
