Jammu, Jan 23: In observance of National Road Safety Month, Girdhari Lal Sharma, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, along with Shiv Kumar, Dy. SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch, conducted a comprehensive awareness programme at Christ School Degwar, Poonch.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and staff, with the school’s Principal, Linju, extending full support in organising the initiative. The programme aimed to underscore the importance of road safety measures in preventing accidents and ensuring safer roads. Participants were sensitised to essential practices, including: Wearing seat belts and helmets, observing speed limits, avoiding reckless overtaking and overloading and adhering strictly to the Motor Vehicles Act regulations.
The students pledged to disseminate the message of road safety among their families, friends, and wider community, with a view to fostering a culture of responsible road use. The Principal was also encouraged to reiterate these messages regularly during school hours to instil lasting awareness.
additionally, a briefing session was conducted for officers and officials of the Traffic Department deployed in Poonch and Surankote. They were advised to ensure proper turnout, exhibit commitment in their duties, and strictly enforce Motor Vehicle Act rules. They were further instructed to educate the public and students through similar awareness programmes, fostering long-term behavioural changes to enhance road safety and prevent the loss of lives.
