Srinagar, Oct 17: After the announcement of inducting 200 electric buses, 100 each for Jammu and Srinagar City, the trial run of the E-buses in Srinagar is likely to start by next month, said an official on Monday.
A top official from Srinagar Smart City, known to the development told Rising Kashmir that a contract has been signed between the Srinagar Smart City and Tata Motors for the procurement of E-buses and that they are expecting to start an on-road trial run by end of next month.
“The modalities on the contract have been finalized and the contract has been made with TATA motors for the procurement of E-Buses, and by mid of November we are expecting to receive the first batch of E-Buses, subsequently the trial run will start as well”, the official said.
The official added that the buses will be of high end equipped with the latest technologies with a prolonged 5th generation battery backup to cover the maximum of distance on a single charge. He said that they are also working on the identification of space for the Bus Depot and charging station and that the Srinagar Smart City jointly with the Srinagar district administration and revenue department is working on it, and by the next 10 days they will finalize the space.
Earlier this month, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Dheeraj Gupta, chaired a comprehensive meeting to review progress on the procurement of electric bus project for Jammu and Srinagar as Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) are the project executing agencies.
During the meeting, it was asserted that the establishment of E-bus services is a very crucial project and will play a big role in adopting a clean mode of transport, while Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Department Dheeraj Gupta had asked project executing agencies to expedite the process and clear all existing bottlenecks at the earliest.
