SRINAGAR, DEC 15: Principal Secretary, Power Development Department (PDD), H. Rajesh Prasad, today chaired a review meeting to assess the power situation in Jammu and Kashmir at the Civil Secretariat. He directed the officers of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to ensure strict adherence to the power curtailment schedule and avoid unscheduled power cuts.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Managing Director of KPDCL, Ruhaila Wani, Managing Director of JKPTCL, Chief Engineers of various wings, Superintending Engineers, Chief Electrical Inspector, and Executive Engineers of O&M and STD divisions.
The meeting focused on the current power scenario in the Kashmir Valley, particularly the availability of buffer stocks for the winter season. The Chief Engineer Distribution of KPDCL presented an update on the load scenario and the operational Load Curtailment Program (LCP), detailing that the valley is currently receiving 8-10% more electricity compared to last year. On average, 1600 MW is being supplied, with peak loads reaching up to 1750 MW.
Prasad instructed KPDCL officials to ensure power distribution according to the approved curtailment schedule, with close monitoring to prevent any deviations. He emphasized the importance of regularly tracking the AT&C (Aggregate Technical and Commercial) losses for each 11kV feeder, urging corrective measures to minimize losses and ensure a reliable power supply throughout the region. He also called for increased enforcement efforts to tackle power pilferage and unauthorized use of excess load.
The Principal Secretary reviewed the availability of transformers (DTs) and spare materials in the KPDCL Divisional and Central Stores to address any urgent requirements. The Chief Engineer Distribution assured that sufficient stock of buffer transformers and other spare materials is available to quickly restore power in case of any outages.
