Srinagar, Oct 11: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, was welcomed at a grand Civic Reception held in her honour at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar. In her heartfelt address during the event, she expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded to her during her inaugural visit to Kashmir as the President of India. She also praised the distinguished personalities from Jammu and Kashmir who have left their mark in various fields, enhancing the reputation of both the region and the entire nation.
President Murmu emphasised the historical significance of Kashmir as a hub of art, culture, and education that dates back millennia. She harked back to the 4th Buddhist Council held in Kashmir nearly 2,000 years ago. She also recounted the literary contributions of Shankaracharya, the wisdom of Lal Ded, the teachings of Sheikh Nooruddin, the ethics promoted by Zain-ul-Abidin, and the intellectual prowess of Abhinavagupta, highlighting his principle that “Shanta Rasa” is the source of all “Rasas.”
The President stressed the importance of preserving Kashmir’s legacy of peace and tranquillity, encouraging its continued strength.
President Murmu celebrated the ongoing transformation of Kashmir, emphasising that a new era of progress, peace, and prosperity has begun. She commended the substantial improvements in infrastructure development, e-governance, healthcare, housing, women’s empowerment, tribal outreach, and inclusive development. She acknowledged the record-breaking 1.7 crore tourists who visited Jammu and Kashmir until September this year.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, delivered a warm welcome address, highlighting the inspirational life of President Murmu, who has dedicated herself to empowering marginalized sections of society, particularly women. He lauded her vision and ideals as guiding lights for the world’s largest democracy.
Lt Governor Sinha also underscored the remarkable journey of economic progress and inclusive development in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since August 2019. He emphasised the focus on high growth rates, infrastructure development, industrialization, and the enhancement of both urban and rural lives. The Lt. Governor proudly stated the establishment of an exploitation-free, corruption-free, and fear-free society, ensuring social equality and the well-being of all.
Earlier, President Murmu interacted with local tribal groups and women from Self Help Groups at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar. The Lt. Governor highlighted the pivotal role of Self Help Groups in women’s socio-economic empowerment and their journey towards self-determination.
In her closing remarks, President Murmu commended the rich history of art, culture, and education in Jammu and Kashmir. She expressed hope for the region to continue its journey in peace, carrying the fragrant essence of saffron, and to contribute to India’s vision of self-reliance by 2047.
President Murmu’s visit was conducted under tight security arrangements, reaffirming the commitment to the well-being and prosperity of the region. She also presided over the 20th convocation of Kashmir University, where she witnessed the enthusiasm and aspirations of young women and girls, whom she hailed as the “nation builders of tomorrow.”
