Jammu, Jan 25: Ministry of Home Affairs (GoI) today announced the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, Distinguished and Meritorious Service on the eve of Republic Day- 2023. 38 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police are among awardees which include 25 Medals for Gallantry, 02 medals for Distinguished Service and 11 medals for Meritorious Service.
Director General of Police, J&K,Dilbag Singh has congratulated the JKP officers/officials who have been awarded these prestigious medals. He said that the force is proud of its gallant and meritorious officers and Jawans, who, by the virtue of their valour and dedication in the field of public service have achieved the honour.
Singh has expressed hope that the awardees will continue their efforts in public service and garner more appreciation for the organisation and the Nation as well. He hoped that more and more J&K Police personnel would be inspired and encouraged by these awards.
Those who have been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service are Danesh Rana, ADGP (Coordination), PHQ, and Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir Zone.
Presidents Police Medal for Meritorious Service has been awarded to Mohd Yousif, SP, Shri Amarjit Singh SSP,Syed Al Tahir Gilani SP,Ajaz Ahmed Zargar SP, Mohd Sayed Shah SP(S), Sanjay Kumar Sharma SP, Pushapjeet Singh Insp, Sanjeev Bakshi Insp, Gulzar Ahmed Malik Insp, Bagwan Singh Bandral Insp (M) and Shri Abdul Gaffar Hajam HC.
Twenty five Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry for their bravery.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also announced medals for Home Guards and Civil defence on the occasion of Republic Day 2023. Two officials of Jammu and Kashmir HG/CD who have been awarded Medals for meritorious service are Shri Firdous Ahmad Khan, Selection Grade Fireman and Shri Bashir Ahmad Ahangar, Fireman.
Meanwhile, J&K Lt. Governor’s administration has announced the Jammu & Kashmir Police medal for Gallantry and Meritorious Service. 174 Police personnel have been conferred with the Medals.
Jammu & Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious has been conferred upon 06 officers. Those who have been awarded are DIG Shri Kumar, DIGMohd Suleman Chaudhary, SSPSamir Rekhi, SSP Zahid Naseem Manhas, DySP Vishal Manhas and Inspr Deshbir Singh.
168 JKP personnel have been awarded with the Jammu & Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry on the occasion of Republic Day 2023.
Shaurya Chakra awarded to Shaheed CT Mudasir
No salute is enough for a hero who lived larger than life: ADGP
Srinagar, Jan 25: Constable Mudasir Ahmad Shiekh, who was martyred while fighting terrorists in Baramulla in 2022, was honoured with ‘Shaurya Chakra’, ADGP Kashmir said on Wednesday.
In a tweet, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that no salute is enough for a hero who lived larger than life & whose sacrifice belittled death itself.
“ ShauryaChakra awarded to Shaheed CT Mudasir Sheikh @ Bindaas for showing exceptional bravery while neutralising 3 foreign terrorists. Salute to the braveheart,” ADGP Kashmir said in a tweet.
CT Mudasir Ahmad, a 32-year-old policeman, was killed during an encounter on 25 May, when three Pakistani terrorists were also gunned down by security forces in Najibhat area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.
People fondly called him ‘Bindas Bhai’. The reason behind its name is also special. Mudassir’s father Maqsood Ahmed Sheikh was also in the police. He said that his son is very brave.
His colleagues stated that Mudasir was a brave officer and would never hesitate to do any work. He was unbeatable and his martyrdom was a big loss for the police departmen
ADGP Vijay Kumar gets President’s Police Medal for distinguished services on R- day
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar has been awarded President’s Police Medal for distinguished services on the occasion of Republic Day.
President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) is the highest award given for special distinguished record in Police Service. The medal is awarded for distinguished service to Officers who have served at least 25 years in the State/Central police or in security organisations.
ADGP Kumar is a 1997 batch IPS officer who has served in J&K Police in various capacities and has successfully broken the back of terror outfits in the valley.
He is known for handling anti-militancy operations in Kashmir, anti-Maoist operations in Bastar area of Chhattisgarh, and Jat agitation.
Under the leadership of Kumar, 552 terrorists have been killed in J&K, out of which 172 were killed in 2022. Also, J&K saw no hartal, street violence & stone-pelting in 2022. To minimise the local support to terrorist groups, he took both punitive and preventive actions against people who supported terrorists.

ADGP Kumar has received three gallantry medals from the Central government for his role in anti-terror operations. Also, he received a gallantry award from the J&K government.
The Election Commission of India has awarded Kumar the National Award for his role as Chief force coordinator of CAPFs in providing safe environment for conducting assembly elections of nine states in 2018.
