Poppy cultivation destroyed in Anantnag village

In a major drive against eradication of narcotic drug cultivation, Police along with officials of Excise and Revenue department on Thursday destroyed poppy cultivation over 6 Kanals & 10 Marlas of land in Adlash-Srigufwara. 

 

 

The special team of Police headed by SHO Police Station Srigufwara Sajad Ah, Tehsildar Srigufwara, and officials of Excise department carried out a drive against poppy cultivation in Adlash village of Srigufwara-Bijbehara. 

 

 

Tehsildar Srigufwara Nusrat told The Rising Kashmir that they have destroyed poppy cultivation over six kanals-Ten Marlas land.

 

 

She said that the drive is part of an ongoing effort under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Drugs (NDPS) Act to combat the illegal cultivation of cannabis and poppy.  

 

 

“Such drives will continue till the menace is completely rooted out from the society,” she said. 

 

 

 SHO Srigufwara Sajad Ah wani said that FIR has been registered against all accused persons who are involved in this illegal activity. 

 

 

He said that destruction of the poppy cultivation is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the region. 

 

 

“We have appealed to the locals to refrain from engaging in such illegal activities and to cooperate with the authorities in their efforts to maintain law and order in the region,” he said. 

 

 

The authorities have also urged the public to come forward with any information about illegal poppy cultivation and drug trafficking in the area.
