Ganderbal, Oct 15: Parents and residents of Babawayil Balla in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have voiced serious concern over the unsafe and inadequate infrastructure at the Government Primary School, which has been functioning under substandard conditions since its establishment in 2009.The school lacks essential facilities, including a proper playground, boundary fencing, and a safe approach road. The absence of a playground denies children vital opportunities for physical activity, while the lack of fencing exposes them to potential dangers such as stray animals and wildlife. To make matters worse, ongoing road construction near the school has rendered access increasingly hazardous. During rainy weather, the muddy and uneven path becomes slippery, often forcing teachers to release students early to avoid accidents. “We have raised these issues repeatedly with the authorities, but nothing has been done so far,” said a concerned resident. “Our children’s safety is at constant risk. The school urgently needs fencing, drainage, and a proper approach road.”Locals said they have also highlighted the matter in Gram Sabha meetings and with the concerned education officials, but their appeals have gone largely unheeded.Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ganderbal, Oneel Kumar Bhat, told Rising Kashmir that the department would address the issue promptly. “I will personally visit the site and take up the matter with higher authorities to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for the students,” he said. Residents expressed hope that the administration’s timely intervention would finally end years of neglect and provide children with a secure, better-equipped space to learn and grow.
