Ganderbal, Sept 24: Under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal and Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Altaf Ahmed, who also serves as the Election Officer, polling staff and materials have been dispatched to various polling stations in Ganderbal district ahead of the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections, scheduled for Wednesday, September 25.
The polling teams departed from Degree College Ganderbal and Kangan, ensuring that all necessary arrangements have been made for a smooth electoral process. ARO Altaf Ahmed emphasized the extensive preparations to facilitate voter participation and urged citizens to actively exercise their right to vote, aiming for a 100% voter turnout in the district.
Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Qureshi confirmed that traffic arrangements have been made to minimize disruptions. Sector-wise vehicle allocations are in place, and additional vehicles have been kept in reserve for emergency situations.
Security measures have also been heightened, with personnel deployed at key locations to safeguard the electoral process. Vehicles are being thoroughly checked to prevent any potential disruptions.
The second phase of the elections covers 26 assembly seats across six districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including prominent constituencies such as Kangan (ST), Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Khanyar, Habbakadal, Lal Chowk, Chanapora, and Budgam. The spotlight in this phase is on former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is contesting from both Ganderbal and Budgam constituencies.
To accommodate voters, the Election Commission of India has set up 3,502 polling stations, with 1,056 in urban areas and 2,446 in rural regions. Over 2.5 million voters will decide the fate of 239 candidates in this crucial phase.
After the first phase saw a 61.38% voter turnout, attention is now focused on the second phase. The final phase of voting will take place on October 1, with results expected on October 8.
