Srinagar, Dec 25: The Cyber Police, Kashmir, Wednesday, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and YouTubers against promoting betting apps, fraudulent investment schemes, and fake work-from-home job offers, stating that such actions are punishable under the law.

The Cyber Police said, “These activities mislead the public and result in significant financial losses. We are closely monitoring these promotions, and strict action will be taken against those involved.”
The warning comes in the wake of rising complaints about influencers promoting betting apps and scams that have cost unsuspecting individuals their hard-earned money. Officials noted that these schemes have particularly impacted youth, many of whom have lost crores of rupees to such fraudulent activities.
In recent months, several social media influencers in Kashmir have been observed endorsing betting apps, leading to widespread financial distress among users who fall prey to these scams. “Previously, a large number of youth lost substantial amounts of money in these scams, including online gambling and fraudulent investment schemes,” an officer said.
The Cyber Police also highlighted that these frauds exploit the financial aspirations of individuals, offering the illusion of quick riches. “There are no shortcuts to becoming wealthy,” an officer told Rising Kashmir. “Youth must avoid these schemes to protect their hard-earned money.”
Citizens and influencers have been urged to exercise caution and report suspicious activities to the Cyber Police. The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe digital environment and called on the public to act responsibly.

Despite repeated warnings, cases of individuals falling victim to these scams continue to surface. The Cyber Police underscored the importance of public awareness in combating such fraudulent practices.

The department appealed to the youth to avoid work-from-home scams, betting apps, and fraudulent investment schemes to safeguard themselves from financial ruin. It also requested influencers to act responsibly and refrain from misleading the public for personal gain.
The Cyber Police urged people to report any fraudulent activities to their helpline, reiterating that vigilance and awareness are key to a secure and scam-free digital space.
