Budgam, Feb 04: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized 19 vehicles and filed two FIRs in Budgam district related to the illegal excavation and transportation of minerals during the month of January 2025.
A police official said that Budgam police have intensified efforts to combat illegal mining activities in the district and have seized 19 vehicles used in the illegal excavation and transportation of minerals, which include ’10 tippers, 04 tractors, and 05 JCBs. These have been seized from areas including Ponchgund, Qumroo, Badran, Magam, and Narbal areas in the month of January 2025. However, two FIRs have been registered against those involved in these unlawful practices.
“This proactive approach to curb illegal mining has been actively taken up by all police stations of the district along with the Department of Geology and Mining. The authorities have also imposed heavy fines against those involved in illegal mining,” the official said.
