Srinagar, June 14: Five residents from the Nowshera sector of Rajouri have been honoured by the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their courageous act in thwarting a major cross-border narcotics smuggling attempt. The incident, which occurred in April this year in Village Makdi beyond the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS), resulted in the recovery of a substantial consignment of heroin.
A police spokesperson disclosed that the Police Headquarters of J&K has sanctioned a reward totaling ₹4 lakhs in recognition of the residents’ heroic and patriotic actions. The names of the awardees have been withheld for security reasons.
The thwarted smuggling attempt led to the initial seizure of 8.5 kg of heroin, with an additional recovery of 1.44 kg, bringing the total to 9.94 kg. The case has been registered under FIR No. 36/2024 at the Nowshera Police Station, Rajouri, under sections 8/21/23 of the NDPS Act.
He said narco smuggling bid was foiled in Village Makdi, which is one of the villages located ahead of Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS), referred to as LoC fence.
“Notably contraband Heroin weighing as much as 8.5 Kg initially with subsequent recovery of 1.44 Kg, making as much as 9.94 Kg has been recovered by J&K Police in the instant case registered in FIR No. 36 of 2024 under sections 8/21/23 NDPS Act of Police Station Nowshera of District Rajouri,” the spokesman said.
Alongside recoveries of narcotics, a major cross border smuggling racket has also been busted following the swift sharing of intel by felicitating these border residents.
“As much as 04 smugglers have been arrested and interrogated so far, with continued efforts to unearth other linkages- transnational as well as those operating from own side of LoC.”
The spokesman said that J&K Police has once again reiterated its firm resolve to carry forward its fight against transnational crimes especially narco, terror and narco-terror crimes by seeking and motivating the general public’s active participation in noble cause.
On 14th April, SSP Rajouri said that there was some specific intelligence input on the basis of which an operation was launched in the LoC area of Jhangar in Nowshera sector.
