Police recovered illicit forest timber in Handwara

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that it seized 5 logs of Deodar (Himalayan Cedar), measuring up to 22 CFT in forest compartment No.25 of Khudi Mawar area of Handwara in Kupwara district.

A Police spokesperson said, “In a swift responce to the information recieved from reliable source regarding the smuggling/cutting of green gold in forest compartment No.25 of Khudi Mawar,a deligent team of officers from Handwara Police led by SHO Qalamabad under the supervision of SDPO Handwara rushed towards the spot and achieved a significant breakthrough on 19,2023 when they seized 5 logs of Deador(Himaliyan Cedar) measuring upto 22 CFT.”

” Accused persons involved in the commission of offence on seeing the police party managed to flee from the spot however they were identified as 1.Salamdin khatana S/O Laldin khatana 2.Nazir ah Khatana S/O Sartaj khatana 3.Mohd Ramzan wani S/O Gh Rasool wani all residents of Khudi Mawar,efforts are on to nab them soon”, he said.

In response to the incident FIR No.68/2023 has been registered under section 379 IPC & 26 IF Act and a comprehensive investigation is underway to bring all the individuals involved to justice.

The Handwara Police would like to earnestly appeal to the public to collaborate with law enforcement in the battle against crimes. If you have any information regarding drug peddling or any other criminal activities witnessed anywhere, please do not hesitate to contact your nearest police station or simply dial 112. Rest assured, the police are committed to taking stern action against criminals in accordance with the law.
