Police organise Thana Diwas to address crime, improve surveillance in Jammu

Jammu, Oct 05: Police organsied a Thana Diwas at the premises of the Police Station Bus Stand Jammu. The meeting was chaired by SHO Bus Stand, Inspector Inder Paul Singh and witnessed the active participation of prominent individuals from the area, including hoteliers, transporters, shopkeepers, travel agency operators, and travel agents. During the meeting, special emphasis was laid on maintaining heightened vigilance in view of the prevailing security scenario and the forthcoming religious festivals such as Diwali, Karwa Chauth, and Bhai Dooj. The attendees were sensitised about the importance of remaining alert and reporting any suspicious activities or individuals in the area. Several important issues were discussed during the session:
  1. CCTV Surveillance:
Concerns were raised regarding the functionality of CCTV cameras installed within the jurisdiction of the police station. Participants demanded that all non-functional cameras be repaired or replaced at the earliest to ensure effective monitoring and deterrence of criminal activities.
  1. Traffic Management & Public Obstruction:
The issue of traffic congestion due to unorganised parking and unauthorised roadside installations of carts and hawkers was brought to light. Measures to streamline parking and remove such encroachments were discussed.
  1. Crime-Related Concerns:
Participants shared grievances related to incidents of pickpocketing, snatching, drug peddling, thefts, and child begging. It was assured that increased police patrolling and strategic deployment will be carried out to curb these activities.
  1. Role of Shopkeepers and Travel Agents:
Shopkeepers and travel agents were instructed to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the police. Travel agents were specifically directed to wear their official ID cards during working hours to ensure proper identification.
  1. Public Announcement (PA) System:
The need to make the PA system functional in the area for timely and reliable public announcements was also highlighted. All participants were assured that their concerns would be brought to the notice of senior officers for necessary and prompt action. They expressed satisfaction with the assurances provided and the commitment shown by the police to enhance law and order in the jurisdiction. Increased policing efforts will be undertaken to effectively tackle crime and maintain public safety in the area.
