Police Launch Probe After Stray Dog Killed in Magam

Srinagar, May 9: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday registered an FIR after a video surfaced on social media showing a stray dog being brutally beaten to death by a group of individuals.

 

Officials confirmed that the animal died from the injuries sustained during the assault and a postmortem examination has also been conducted.

 

An official from Jammu and Kashmir Police said Police Station Magam registered FIR No. 57/26 under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act after the video went viral online.

 

“Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the incident,” the official said, adding that further investigation is in progress.

 

According to the viral video and preliminary information, the incident allegedly occurred after the stray dog attacked a local resident. The animal was reportedly caught by the man, following which several others gathered and assaulted the dog with sticks and stones.

 

The disturbing footage, widely circulated on social media, shows the animal being repeatedly attacked by multiple individuals as bystanders looked on.

 

The incident triggered sharp reactions from animal rights activists, civil society members and social media users, who condemned the act and demanded strict legal action against those responsible.
