Srinagar, May 5: Police on Tuesday intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking in south Kashmir, conducting large-scale operations in Anantnag while busting a drug racket in Kulgam with the arrest of three accused, including a key supplier.

In Anantnag, police carried out simultaneous Narco Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) at 20 locations across the district, targeting suspected drug peddlers, kingpins and their associates. The raids were conducted based on specific intelligence inputs as part of an ongoing campaign to dismantle the narcotics network and its support systems.

Officials said multiple teams were deployed under the supervision of senior officers to identify those involved in drug trafficking and take strict legal action. Details of recoveries and arrests are expected to be shared after the completion of the operations.

Meanwhile, in Kulgam, police arrested three persons and seized a significant quantity of heroin and cash, busting a well-organised drug network. Acting on a tip-off, a naka was laid at Choimulla in Qazigund, leading to the interception of a vehicle carrying two accused. During the search, around 50 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered.

Further investigation led to the identification and arrest of the main supplier from Samba, from whose possession an additional 152 grams of heroin and ₹52,000 cash were recovered. Police said the accused was running a network supplying drugs across Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said further investigation is underway and more arrests and recoveries are likely. Police have reiterated their commitment to eliminating the drug menace and urged the public to share information about drug-related activities.
