Srinagar, Dec 07: After battling for life for over a month, The Jammu and Kashmir Police Inspector who was critically injured in Eidgah terrorist attack succumbed at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi on Thursday, a day after he was airlifted to the national capital for specialised treatment.
The slain cop Masroor Wani was shot at and seriously injured on October 09 with a pistol from point blank range when he was playing cricket in Eidgah area of city. He was airlifted to Delhi on Wednesday from Paras Hospital Srinagar in an Air Ambulance.
On Thursday evening, a somber gathering took place in Narkara Downtown area of Srinagar as hundreds assembled to console the family of slain policeman.
A police spokesman revealed that the terrorists had fired upon and injured Inspector Masroor Ahmad near Eidgah, Srinagar.
He was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigation reveals that a pistol was used in this terror crime. The area was cordoned off, case was registered,” he said.
LG Sinha pays tribute
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the brave martyr of Jammu Kashmir Police, Inspector Masroor Ahmad.
He has said, “No words are strong enough to express the pain of losing Inspector Masroor Ahmad, the brave son of Mother India. I salute his courage and sacrifice. In this difficult moment of grief, I express my condolences to the family of the martyr,” the Lt Governor said.
“I want to assure the people that his supreme sacrifice will not go in vain. We are firmly resolved to crush the terrorist menace and give a befitting reply to those who are aiding and abetting terrorism,” the Lt Governor said.
