Srinagar, Oct 03: In an ongoing effort to bolster internal security and prevent the misuse of mobile communication services, police in Handwara have launched a comprehensive district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors.
During the inspections, police teams checked multiple locations, focusing on verifying Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance, scrutinizing documentation during SIM issuance, and ensuring that no SIM cards are activated without proper ID and address verification. They also reviewed the safeguards implemented by vendors to prevent unauthorized issuance of SIMs.
While interacting with the vendors, police officials emphasized their crucial role in safeguarding communication networks from being exploited for unlawful activities. Vendors were strictly instructed to adhere to KYC protocols and warned that negligence could lead to legal action, including license cancellation and prosecution.
The J&K Police also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, fake documents, or irregularities related to SIM cards. They stressed that community cooperation, along with strict enforcement, is vital to prevent misuse and maintain district security.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance, the police assured that such inspection drives will continue regularly to ensure a safe and secure communication environment in the region.
