Srinagar, Dec 24: Police under the aegis of Civic Action Programme (CAP) and to commemorate the supreme sacrifices of police martyrs kick-started “Sultan Memorial Football Championship” at Khushal Sports Stadium in the Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The tournament was inaugurated by the family members of martyr Muhammad Sultan, resident of Muqam Shaheed Mir Sopore, who attained martyrdom last year in a terror attack in Bandipora. A galaxy of officers of police and civil administration including ADC Sopore Parvaiz Sajad-JKAS (Chief Guest), SSP Sopore Shabir Nawab-JKPS (Guest of Honour), DySP DAR Sopore, DySP PC Sopore, SHO PS Sopore, SHO PS Tarzoo other officers were present.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Sopore appreciated all the participating teams for taking part in the sports event and stressed upon the youngsters to allow their minds to explore their own thoughts and imagination through the medium of sports. He said sports activities are important for personality development and to infuse positivity, good health, and a sense of achievement among individuals.
During the tournament, 10 different teams of PD Sopore will participate and the inaugural match was played between SL Academy FC and Baba Raza FC Sopore which was won by SL Academy by 4:0. The Man of the Match was awarded to Ruhi Jaan of SL Academy FC. Two more matches were played on the first day of the championship.
