Police Demolish Drug Peddler’s House in Langate

Kupwara, May 11: In a major action against drug peddlers under the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan and 100 days anti narcotics campaign, Handwara Police along with district administration launched multiple operations across Langate and Zachaldara ans other areas of Handwara sub- district, targeting alleged drug offenders and illegal encroachments.

 

A demolition drive was carried out at Langate against accused Abdul Rehman Bhat, son of Gh Ahmad Bhat, resident of Shartpora Langate, who was involved in FIR No. 394/2017 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. According to police, the accused had illegally constructed two shops and two residential rooms on Kahcharie land as per revenue records. The structures were demolished during the drive conducted by police and civil administration.

 

In another operation, Police Station Handwara registered FIR No. 98/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act against Abdul Hameed Bhat, son of Abdul Raheem Bhat, resident of Hangha, for illegal cultivation of poppy straw. The illegal crop was destroyed on the spot in the presence of Revenue and Excise officials after completion of all legal formalities.

 

Meanwhile, Handwara Police in coordination with District Administration Kupwara also retrieved around five kanals of Kahcharie land illegally encroached upon by a drug peddler in Budshungi area of Tehsil Zachaldara. Officials said the land was under unlawful occupation and legal proceedings have been initiated as per law.

 

Police said the actions form part of the intensified anti drug campaign being carried out across the district under the Nasha Mukt J&K initiative. Handwara Police reiterated its commitment towards eradicating drug menace, illegal cultivation and unlawful activities from society through strict legal action and coordinated enforcement drives.
