Srinagar, July 19: Police have busted a major drug racket in Hyderpora area of Srinagar and arrested three persons besides seizing a substantial quantity of narcotics and cash.
According to officials, the accused Raza Mirjan and two accomplices were apprehended at Humhama Police Station following a joint effort involving local residents and law enforcement personnel. The raid, conducted on Tuesday night, uncovered 39 boxes containing a total of 3860 tablets of narcotics, along with a significant amount of cash.
Adil Tak, DO of Humhama Police Post, said the Deputy Controller of the Drugs Division in Kashmir is overseeing the case due to its sensitive nature.
Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, President of the Welfare Committee, expressed concerns over the drug-related activities in the Hyderpora Eco Friends Colony, saying this is due to the rise in drug problems of individuals who relocated to the area several years ago.
“Despite repeated warnings from our committee, the situation continued, which led to recent incidents like the apprehension of a drug courier from Bemina,” Bhat said.
Following the apprehension and subsequent investigation, the police discovered additional narcotics and cash at Mirjan’s residence. The accused and his associates involved in the drug supply chain were arrested.
Firdous Ahmad Dar, General Secretary of the Welfare Committee, hailed the quick response from Budgam Police Station. He urged the government to take strict measures against those responsible for drug distribution. “The seized narcotics and cash reflect the gravity of the situation,” Dar said.
Local residents have voiced their concern over the escalating drug menace and called upon authorities to take stringent action against offenders to curb drug addiction among the youth.
The Humhama Police Post acknowledged the efforts of the Welfare Committee and the support of the local community in combating drug-related crimes.
