Police bust ‘fake mining’ permission racket

  Ganderbal, Oct 03: Police have exposed a major nexus of illegal mining after unearthing fake permissions allegedly issued from Pulwama district to facilitate unlawful extraction of minerals from Nallah Sindh. During a special drive, police seized 13 vehicles including nine tippers, two Tata mobiles, two tractors and registered three FIRs. Several accused were taken into custody for their involvement in the racket. The vehicles, loaded with illegally extracted material, were intercepted in the jurisdictions of Ganderbal, Safapora Gund and Nagbal police stations. Officials said that samples from both the seized vehicles and the extraction sites were collected in the presence of a Magistrate and sent for forensic analysis to establish evidence against the accused. The seized vehicles carried registration numbers from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including JK05B-9529, JK01AF-0052, JK13C-8090 and PB5AX-7928. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal said that strict action will continue against violators. “Illegal mining damages the environment and causes huge losses to the public exchequer. Ganderbal Police is committed to taking firm action against such activities,” he said, urging people to report unlawful mining in their areas. The crackdown reflects the district police’s renewed focus on protecting natural resources and ensuring accountability against those indulging in environmental crimes.
