Shopian, Feb 21: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
According to the statement issued by Police, Police Station Zainapora received specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Bashir Ah Bhat alias Bashir Khacha son of Mohamad Abdullah resident of Wachi has concealed contraband substance in his residential house at Wachi.
On receipt of this information, a Police Party of Police Station Zainapora along with concerned Executive Magistrate raided the specific house.
“During search, Charas was recovered from the said house. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody,” Police said.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 09/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated.
Police have requested the community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.”
