Baramulla, May 01: Police on Monday said it arrested the “most wanted” drug smuggler during a routine vehicle checking in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Jaleel Ahmad Shah was apprehended near Khushalpora, Delina, a police official told Rising Kashmir.
He said Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Baramulla, Sajjad Bukhari, oversaw the “operation”. Bukhari was assisted by PSI Showkat Ahmad, Incharge Police Post Delina.
Upon searching Shah’s Scorpio with registration number JK01AS-5295, police found 10 grams of contraband cocaine and 15 grams of charas-like substances in his possession, the official said.
Jaleel, son of Nazir Ahmad Shah and a resident of Kanispora village of Baramulla, was immediately taken into custody, and the vehicle was seized, he said, adding that a case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Baramulla Police Station, and investigations have begun.
“The people of the area have hailed the efforts of the Baramulla Police, expressing their willingness to support the police in their fight against drug trafficking,” the official said. “This highlights the strong relationship between the police and the public in the area.”
“The arrest of Jaleel, a notorious drug smuggler, is a significant breakthrough in the police’s efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society,” the official said.
