Udhampur, June 27: A block-level workshop on the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme was held Friday at Thanua Dharmara in Udhampur district. The workshop aimed to raise awareness among local micro-entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), farmers, and unemployed youth about the benefits of the scheme, while promoting the formalisation of food processing units to create employment and reduce food wastage.
As per a statement to Rising Kashmir, the PMFME scheme champions the slogan “Vocal for Local”, emphasising local population engagement, local manufacturing, local markets, and strengthened local supply chains. The event was organised by the Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing, in collaboration with the district administration. Participants were provided with detailed information on various aspects of the scheme, including eligibility criteria, financial assistance, and the application process. The initiative aims to empower food processors, farmers, rural women and unemployed youth, helping them increase their income through sustainable food processing ventures. Under the scheme, a back-ended subsidy of 35 percent on the cost of machinery is offered, along with full handholding support from the department—ranging from preparation of the detailed Project Report (DPR) and loan processing to packaging, branding and marketing of products.
