Srinagar, Sept 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a mega rally on September 19 at the iconic Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar, as part of the BJP’s intensified campaign for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
BJP’s J&K Unit held a core body meeting on Sunday at its district office in Srinagar to finalise preparations for the event, which is expected to draw a large crowd of around 3,500-4,000 attendees.
Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah, Co-Convenor of the BJP Media Department, described the rally as a pivotal moment in the party’s campaign strategy. “This rally marks a significant step in bolstering the BJP’s presence and deepening its connection with the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Shah said.
PM Modi is expected to focus on key issues central to the region’s development, including infrastructure projects, employment opportunities, tourism promotion, and economic growth. His speech is anticipated to reassure the public about the government’s long-term commitment to prosperity, security, and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
In preparation for the rally, BJP J&K Election in-Charge Ram Madhav, BJP General Secretary (Org) Ashok Koul, and Srinagar District President Ashok Bhat convened a meeting at the BJP District Office in Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
Ram Madhav expressed confidence in the BJP’s growing popularity in the region, stating, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have accepted the BJP and have full faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. We are confident that we will form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Other prominent leaders who attended the meeting included Dr Nirmal Singh, Chairman of the BJP Manifesto Committee and former Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sharma, Vice Election Campaign In-Charge, former MLC Surinder Ambardar, National Spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, and several senior BJP candidates and district presidents.
Meanwhile, security preparations are in full swing ahead of the rally.
Police and paramilitary forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have intensified patrolling and vehicle checks in key areas of Srinagar. “Tight security arrangements will be put in place around the venue to ensure a peaceful event. Multiple checkpoints have been established to thwart any attempts by anti-national elements,” a police official said.
These elections will be the first Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. The region has 90 constituencies, with seven reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and nine for Scheduled Tribes (STs). According to the Election Commission of India, 8.806 million eligible voters will participate in this historic election.
