Srinagar, Mar 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Katra-Srinagar train on May 17, marking the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The train will be flagged off from the Katra railway station of the Jammu rail division, officials said.
A senior Northern Railway officer told Rising Kashmir that the Prime Minister will flag off the train on May 17, fulfilling the long-cherished dream of rail connectivity in the region.
“The train is built to withstand extreme weather conditions, ensuring smooth travel even in harsh winters. It will provide a safer and more comfortable journey for passengers,” the official stated.
“Preparations are in full swing for the grand inauguration of the first train to Kashmir. Railway officials, engineers, and workers are working tirelessly to ensure that all arrangements are in place for this historic event,” he said.
The officials said that stations along the route are being spruced up, security measures are being enhanced, and final safety checks are underway on tracks and train systems. Special emphasis is being placed on passenger amenities to ensure a smooth and comfortable travel experience,” the official added.
Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said that the final schedule for the inauguration is yet to be confirmed.
“No official confirmation has been received regarding the exact timing and details of the event. However, preparations are progressing rapidly to ensure readiness once the schedule is finalized,” Upadhyay said.
He further mentioned that trial runs have been successfully conducted, with all safety and technical checks in place to ensure seamless operations. “We are awaiting the final nod, after which all arrangements will be executed as per the approved plan,” he added.
