Pulwama, Aug 01: Community members need to  play their part in the war against drugs, Deputy Inspector General ( DIG) of Police for South Kashmir, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, said here at Rajpora area of Pulwama district on Monday.
The police officer was talking to the media after inaugurating a T20 cricket tournament at Rajpora village of Pulwama.
He said that JKP’s fight against drugs is in progress.
“ We have a clear message that sports is the one of the most important and effective means of keeping away from drug abuse,” the DIG said, adding that apart from enforcement, society members have a responsibility in eradication of this menace.
He said that some time ago they had a case who was booked under NDPS ( Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act  but that didn’t deter him from indulging in the menace.
“  The case was studied and it was found that he needed an alternative livelihood,” he said, adding that community intervention was sought and an alternative livelihood was provided to him.
The DIG said that the person is living a normal life. “ We as a community need to focus on these interventions,” he said.
The DIG proposed district police administration to work with other sports authorities and local associations in improving basic facilities for building sports infrastructure.
He said that the T20 series at Rajpora is one among many events organised by the police under the civic action programme.
