According to a relative, the scholar was pursuing a doctoral degree in Chemistry at Mysore University in Karnataka.

The 32-year-old deceased has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Amin Wani, a resident of Chansar in Kulgam.

Javaid Ahmad, a relative of the deceased said that they received a call from the police yesterday about his demise.

“He was taken to hospital and later we learned he had died of cardiac arrest,” he said.

The scholar had submitted his thesis for his Ph.D. and was awaiting results and was scheduled to visit home next week.

Rayees Ahmad a local told Rising Kashmir that the family had already left for Mysore to bring back the mortal remains of their son.

The locals have also appealed to deputy commissioner Kulgam to help the bereaved family in bringing back the mortal remains of the scholar.
