Srinagar, Mar 26: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Zadibal and National Conference Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said the local government stands firmly with daily wagers, emphasising that the voice of the people is actively resonating in the Assembly.
Speaking to reporters at the Tulip Garden, Sadiq said people’s concerns are now being addressed in the Assembly. “The public has felt, perhaps for the first time, that their voices are being heard and their issues are being raised meaningfully,” he said.
Reaffirming his party’s commitment to daily wagers, the NC leader criticised the Opposition, saying, “While they had the opportunity, they failed to take necessary steps for daily wage workers. They comfortably could have done what they now claim to support, but they did not.”
He accused them of hypocrisy, saying, “The same people who kept them away from offices, are now talking about their rights. They must clarify who is truly playing politics here.”
MLA Sadiq further pointed out that in the Omar Abdullah-led government, a committee was constituted within four months to address the issues of daily wagers. “We ensured that top bureaucrats were involved so that the problems of daily wagers could be resolved,” he said.
On the status of the daily wagers’ report, Sadiq said once the findings come out in six months, appropriate steps will be taken to address their concerns.
When asked about People’s Conference leader Sajad Gani Lone walking out of the Assembly, Tanveer said. “He took an oath in the Union Territory, contested elections in the UT, and entered the Assembly in the UT. The CGST and GST only needed modifications, yet he walked out. We want statehood back, and the National Conference will fight for it, but we do not want political drama over it.”
