Srinagar, Jun 01: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Ahmad Mir Monday launched a scathing attack on local BJP leaders for spreading baseless rumours and “wishful fantasies” about the Omar Abdullah-led government.

Addressing a meeting of party functionaries at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, Mir said that the BJP’s persistent rumour-mongering reflects nothing but political frustration and an inability to digest the people’s verdict.

He said that the Omar Abdullah-led government enjoys the trust and support of the people and will complete its full constitutional term.

“The government will remain firmly in place as long as the people of Jammu and Kashmir stand with it and they do. The BJP’s repeated attempts are doomed to fail,” he added.

Mir said that every few weeks the BJP manufactures a new story in the hope of creating confusion, but the people have seen through these tactics.”When a party has no public agenda, no governance record to defend and no connection with people’s aspirations, rumours become its only political currency. The BJP’s local leadership is trapped in a cycle of speculation because it lacks the courage to engage with real issues confronting the people,” he said.

Calling the NC government a strong democratic shield protecting the identity, dignity and aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir, Mir said that attempts to destabilise public confidence through propaganda would not succeed.

“The people know who stands with them and who seeks to undermine their mandate. The Omar Abdullah government is focused on governance and public welfare, while the opposition remains busy manufacturing headlines and conspiracy theories to stay politically relevant,” he remarked.

Mir said this while chairing a review meeting of party functionaries and office-bearers of various wings to assess the ongoing public outreach programme. He stressed greater coordination among all wings of the party and directed office-bearers to intensify grassroots engagement to strengthen the party’s organisational network across Kashmir.
