Srinagar, Oct 29: The structures continue to come up unabated along the Dal and Nigeen lake banks despite tall claims of Lake Conservation and Management Authorities (LC&MA) of controlling the illegal constructions around these water bodies.
The illegal construction on these famous water bodies can be spotted at Saidakadal, Nigeen, Lalbazar, Dalgate, Foreshore road, and other several locations in the city. The department is claiming that the teams are not leaving any stone unturned to demolish the structures illegally raised by the people.
Firdous Ahmad (name changed), a resident of Nigeen, told Rising Kashmir that those who are raising the illegal structures are influential people and the department is a mute spectator in their case.
Ahmad said that “if any poor person is initiating a process to build a structure for his living purpose, the said structure will be demolished by the enforcement wing of the LCMA department within no time.”
The VC of lakes conservation and management authority, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, told Rising Kashmir that whenever they get any complaint, strict action is being taken against erring persons.
He stated that no one is permitted to build illegally any structure on any water bodies in Srinagar.
However, the inhabitants of Nigeen alleged that they have never seen a higher official on the ground to inspect the illegal construction in the area. He stated that he applied for the building permit two months ago and is yet to receive it.
“After November, it is difficult to raise any construction as the temperature is getting low and no work can be completed.” I have to wait for a few months to start my work next year. Who is responsible for this delay? “He questioned.
He also questioned if there are cameras installed then how come materials are ferried to raise the illegal constructions. He smells a rat of being the department and the violator’s hand in glove.
