‘People pledge to work for safe, supportive environment for girls’

Budgam, May 19: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and as part of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign on Friday organized an awareness programme at Government Girls High School (GGHS) Ompora, Budgam. The event was aimed at spreading awareness about the role of DHEW, BBBP and Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).
During the campaign, the team DHEW- Mission Shakti said that the BBBP scheme aims to address the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of empowerment of girls and women over a life cycle continuum. The participants also took a pledge to work towards creating a safe and supportive environment for girls in their respective communities
The team gave detailed information on how DHEW-MS is playing an effective role by providing awareness/training among young female folks to generate self-employment by taking advantage of available schemes at the district level.
It raised awareness of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, its ill effects, causes and treatment. They briefed the participants about the initiative Drug De-Addiction Centre and rehabilitation centre which plays an important role to make drug addicts free of addiction. The treatment-cum-rehabilitation centers provide services to the community such as awareness generation, identification of addicts, motivational counseling, detoxification/ de-addiction, vocational rehabilitation, aftercare and re-integration into the social mainstream and preventive education. The participants also took a pledge on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. 
The programme was followed by a cultural programme, essay competition, seminar and sports activities where a number of students took part. It was attended by the headmistress, teachers of Govt Middle School Ompora Budgam, students, DHEW staff, social workers of Special Cell for Women and OSC staff.
