Jammu, July 24: Jeevan Sharma, retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), the brother of Purnima Sharma, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Mayor, on Wednesday joined the National Conference at the party headquarters here.
Jeevan Sharma joined the party in the presence of former minister and additional general secretary of the J&K National Conference, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Provincial president of the party for Jammu Division, Rattan Lal Gupta, former minister and party’s Central Zone president Babu Ram Paul, district president for Jammu Urban, Chander Mohan Sharma and several other senior and middle rung leaders of the party, the NC said in a statement issued here.
Sadhotra welcomed Sharma into the party fold and hoped that with his support the party will be strengthened in Jammu. In his address on the occasion, he said there is a growing disillusionment of the people with the BJP’s governance.
“The people are fed up with the BJP’s unfulfilled promises and lack of concrete action. They are now turning towards the National Conference, seeing it as the only party capable of addressing their concerns and aspirations,” he said
Rattan Lal while welcoming Sharma said the BJP’s popularity has declined in Jammu & Kashmir. “The popularity graph of the BJP is steadily declining. The voting share of the BJP has significantly come down in the recently conducted Lok Sabha polls. It is evident that people are losing faith in the BJP and are looking for a reliable alternative,” he said, adding, “The National Conference stands as the only party with a proven track record of serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Babu Rampal also addressed the gathering, reiterating the NC’s commitment to working for the betterment of the people. “The NC has always been at the forefront of addressing the issues faced by the people of Jammu & Kashmir. We are dedicated to ensuring peace, stability, and development in the region,” he said
Jeevan Sharma expressed his confidence in the leadership of the National Conference, saying, “Only the NC can bring the people of Jammu and Kashmir out of the current grim situation. I am committed to following the path shown by Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, who have always prioritized the welfare and development of the region.”
He pledged to work tirelessly for the upliftment of the National Conference and to effectively address the people’s grievances.
