Jammu, Mar 09: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is launching an extensive membership drive across Jammu and Kashmir to bolster its influence ahead of the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body (ULB) elections.
Senior leader and candidate from the RS Pura Jammu South constituency, Narinder Sharma, spearheaded a strategic meeting with key party figures, including General Secretary Rajinder Manhas and District President KK Sharma, to outline plans for expanding the party’s grassroots presence.
Narinder, speaking on the occasion, said the meeting covered key political and organisational matters, alongside the pressing challenges faced by the region’s residents.
During the discussions, a decision was made to strengthen the membership drive. He said the meeting was organised on the directions of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and urged party leaders to take the membership campaign to every corner of Jammu and Kashmir to expand the party’s base and enhance its support, a party statement issued here said.
Sharma’s efforts aim to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and mobilise support among the electorate, the statement said, adding, “As a prominent social worker and youth leader, Sharma has been instrumental in various welfare initiatives and has helped families in need.”
The PDP said the membership drive is expected to bolster its position in the forthcoming elections, as the party seeks to capitalise on its existing support base and expand its influence in key constituencies, added Sharma.
In J&K, local body elections are crucial for democratic decentralisation, allowing citizens to participate in governance at the local level. “The PDP’s decision to fight the elections with full strength is a strategic move to regain lost ground and build momentum for future elections. However, the party will need to address various challenges, including the ruling party’s influence and the need to connect with voters at the local level,” Sharma said.
