Srinagar, Sept 10: Candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) for the Pattan constituency along with two others submitted their nomination papers to the Returning Officer in Pattan. Five nominations have been received so far, officials said.
PDP’s Javid Iqbal, speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, expressed confidence in winning from the Pattan constituency.
He criticised past leaders, saying the electorate still remembers those who enforced PSA against innocent youth and did nothing for the constituency. “Voters will reject these leaders on October 01,” he added.
Accompanied by scores of supporters and party workers, Javid said that if elected, he will establish Baitul-Maal in every village of Pattan to ensure “no one goes to bed hungry”.
Iqbal, who hails from Palhallan, said there is a visible change on the ground and they are expecting people will come out and vote for change.
RLD contesting candidate Mohammad Mustafa Lone also filed his nomination papers at RO Pattan. He was accompanied by huge number of supporters and workers.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Lone said Pattan has been deprived of basic facilities for decades.
“Healthcare is in shambles and there is a dearth of staff at major hospitals in the area,” he said.
Lone highlighted the problems in the Pattan Constituency, including roads, drinking water, healthcare, education, traffic jams, encroachment and the lack of basic infrastructure.
“We are reaching to every corner and seeking people’s mandate to resolve these issues, he said.
Lone, who is also District President RLD Baramulla, promised that he will work to uplift the education sector and the “dignity” of the people of Kashmir.
Returning Officer Pattan, Gulzar Ahmad said, “So far 5 candidates have filed their nomination papers, which include NC’s Reyaz Bedar, PDP’s Javid Iqbal, RJD’s Mustafa Lone, Apni Party Candidate and one Independent.”
Meanwhile, the senior leader of the People’s Conference and former MLA Pattan, Imran Reza Ansari will file his nomination papers on Wednesday, September 11.
