Srinagar, Sep 25: Paras Hospital Srinagar has rolled out a priority care initiative designed to improve the hospital experience for senior citizens and specially- abled individuals. The programme ensures quicker consultations, expedited diagnostics, reduced waiting times and direct assistance from staff, addressing one of the most pressing concerns in healthcare access for these groups.A statement issued here said that India’s ageing population is expanding rapidly. According to the India Ageing Report 2023, there were nearly 149 million people above the age of 60 in 2022. This number is expected to rise to 194 million by 2031, as per the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. With age, health challenges become more common. Studies show high rates of hypertension, diabetes, and mobility issues among seniors, making timely treatment critical. Accessibility adds another layer of difficulty: a Lancet study found that older Indians travel an average of 14.5 km for outpatient care and over 43 km for hospitalization, with rural patients facing the steepest hurdles. For specially abled senior citizens, these barriers are even more severe, often leading to delayed diagnoses and poorer health outcomes. Against this backdrop, Paras Hospital’s priority care initiative seeks to close critical gaps and make healthcare more accessible for vulnerable groups.Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Murtaza Habib, Facility Director Paras Hospital Srinagar said, “Senior citizens and specially-abled patients often face barriers that prevent timely medical attention. This programme directly addresses those gaps by streamlining access at every step, whether it is registration, consultation, or diagnostics. Our aim is to make their hospital visit efficient, respectful, and stress-free.”The hospital has further strengthened the program by establishing a helpdesk for senior citizens, scheduling special OPD days for elderly patients, initiating counselling and wellness programs, and providing structured guidance for home care support. Paras Hospital Srinagar is committed to continuously improving healthcare access for senior citizens and specially-abled patients. Going forward, this initiative will provide a sustainable framework to ensure timely treatment, shorter waiting times, and dignified care, setting a benchmark for healthcare delivery in the sector.
