Srinagar, Dec 12: A man from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was apprehended after illegally crossing into Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.

A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that one PoK national, Saliiq, son of Khalid and a resident of Bandi Abbaspur, deliberately crossed into Indian territory. Alert troops of the Indian Army deployed along the LoC in the Gulpur sector apprehended him while he was attempting the illegal crossing, he said.

“Further investigations are underway, case will be investigated, so that we will know the exact details about this,” he said.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, security forces unearthed a cache of arms and ammunition in the Lapri area of Mahore, Reasi district. Acting on credible intelligence, a joint search operation led to the discovery of a hideout containing a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition.

The recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, two pistols with magazines, 511 AK-47 rounds, 14 pistol rounds, four hand grenades, and a backpack, the police said.

The police spokesman said that the seized materials have been secured, and an investigation is ongoing to trace the origin of the weapons and determine any potential links to terrorist activities.

“Security forces remain on high alert and have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to authorities,” he added.
