In response to concerns following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Jammu and Kashmir government swiftly established a dedicated toll-free helpline on April 24 to assist students from the Union Territory studying outside the region.
An official told that the helpline has proven to be a crucial, remaining active and highly responsive, offering counseling, guidance, and all forms of assistance to distressed students.
The toll-free helpline was established after reports emerged that students were facing harassment and intimidation in the aftermath of the deadly Pahalgam attack.
“The helpline has addressed and resolved dozens of calls from students across the country, many of whom reached out for emotional support, and logistical help,” he said.
He added that the officer in charge has handled every call with remarkable efficiency, including during late-night emergencies. “The welfare of our students is of utmost importance. The helpline remains proactive and any student needing help can call at any time. Our teams are available round the clock to provide necessary support,” the officer said.
Students have praised the immediate attention they received and thanked the government for establishing the helpline to offer support and guidance to them—(KNO)
