Srinagar, Nov 17: Over 23,000 young men participated in Territorial Army (TA) recruitment drive held in Baramulla district of north Kashmir from November 11 to 17.
The mega rally was aimed to fill 300 vacancies in the region.
Major General P.S. Punia, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 19 Infantry Division, lauded the overwhelming participation and the exceptional talent displayed during the event.
Speaking to reporters, he said this recruitment drive has highlighted the dedication and passion of our youth toward serving the nation. We extend heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to making this event a success, he said.
The GOC said that the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants, hailing from diverse backgrounds, were evident despite challenging weather conditions on some days.
“The resilience and determination shown by the candidates were truly commendable,” he said.
The 7-day recruitment drive adhered to the highest standards of fairness and transparency. Officials from the 161 Territorial Army ensured a smooth and efficient process, reflecting the unit’s values of discipline and commitment.
He further said that the local community also played a crucial role in the event’s success, providing essential facilities and resources. Their support was acknowledged by the organizers and participants alike.
Another senior Army officer stated that the overwhelming response from the youth led to significant crowds throughout the event.
“We did our best to streamline the entire process, and we anticipate receiving such a positive response again in the future,” he added.
Candidates who participated expressed their gratitude to the Commanding Officer of the 161 TA and the local administration for their efforts in facilitating the event.
The selected candidates will now proceed to a written examination as the next step toward joining the ranks of the esteemed Territorial Army, upholding the legacy of bravery and service to the nation.
For many candidates, the drive was not just a career opportunity but a chance to serve the nation.
Sheikh Adil Ahmed, a 22-year-old participant from Kupwara said this recruitment drive gave him the platform to work toward that dream. The process was challenging, but I gave it my best. I will now prepare for the written test, he said.
“The physical tests were rigorous, and the competition was tough, but the transparent and fair selection process motivated me to perform better. I’m hopeful of making it to the next round,” Adil said.
Another aspirant, Junaid Dar, a 21-year-old from Baramulla said that joining the Territorial Army is not just a job for me, it is a chance to serve my country and my community.
“The support from the local administration and organizers was outstanding. They made sure everything was well-managed, and we could focus on giving our best,” he added.
Meanwhile, PRO Defense Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that the Indian Army is conducting recruitment rallies at Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban to recruit youth from 11 Nov 2024 to 20 Nov 2024.
“The recruitment rally is witnessing an overwhelming response with over 12000 enthusiastic youths eager to serve the nation. With determination in their eyes and patriotism in their hearts, these young individuals are taking their first step towards a glorious journey,” he said.
Lt Col Bartwal said that the rally is going on at Dugga, near Bhalra for domiciles of Reasi, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Ramban and Doda for Soldier General Duty & Soldier Clerk and Soldier Tradesmen from the entire UT of J&K.
“The Indian Army and Civil Administration of Jammu & Kashmir have joined hands to ensure the smooth conduct of this rally. We also expect that this rally will be a grand success and enable the youth of the region to earn the honour to serve their Motherland as ‘Sons of Soil’,” he added.
Meanwhile aspirants will undergo a series of physical and mental tests, including endurance runs, fitness checks, and medical examinations. Those who pass these initial stages will then face written exams and interviews. The competition is fierce, but the youth remain hopeful.
