Ganderbal, June 22: The Labour Department has achieved a significant milestone by successfully registering over 13,000 palki walas, pitho walas, dandis, and horses for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra from the Baltal axis. This milestone, part of preparations for SANJY-2024, ensures essential services are readily available for pilgrims.
However, the new online registration process has faced criticism from local service providers, who argue it is overly time-consuming. Many advocate returning to the previous method, citing concerns over accessibility and efficiency.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner present at Sonamarg declined to comment on the registration process and refused to appear on camera.
An official from the Labour Department said that pony providers must register their animals with the Animal Husbandry Department after mandatory health checks. “To streamline operations, RFID cards will be issued to all registered service providers. This initiative, new for SANJY-2024, aims to minimise delays and enhance convenience by distributing cards directly to providers in their respective districts,” he said.
As preparations continue, the focus remains on ensuring a smooth and efficient yatra for all participants, the official added.
