Over 100 kanals of encroached government land was retrieved in different areas of Pattan subdivision of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district here on Monday, an official said.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Pattan, Syed Fahim Behaqi said that special anti-encroachment drives were conducted successfully in Pattan subdivision of the district and several kanals of government land was retrieved from the encroachers.

“More than 100 kanals of government land was retrieved at three different places of Singhpora, Wussan Khoi, and Aglar areas of Pattan,” SDM Pattan, Syed Fahim told Rising Kashmir over phone.

He said that earlier around 34 kanals of government land were retrieved from encroachers at Mamoosa Babagund area of Pattan and were handed over to Rural and Block Development Authorities.

“The land around school was encroached by locals. That land was retrieved and handed over to R&B for construction of a playfield for the students of school,” he said.

SDM Pattan further said that the anti encroachment drives will continue in Pattan area in coming days also.

The locals who were present during the campaign recognised the administration’s efforts in organizing the anti encroachment drives. They were shouting slogans in favor of SDM Pattan, Tehsildar Pattan and other officials.

Meanwhile the administration of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has asked the concerned revenue officers to ensure 100 percent removal of encroachments from state land, including Roshni and Kahcharai by January 2023 end.

Earlier at district headquarters Baramulla, the President Municipal Council Baramulla while addressing a press conference on the government’s proposed anti-encroachment drive said that it is a welcome step, however the government must take care of the poor of the society.

Touseef Raina, MC Baramulla President said that the government should ensure that the anti-encroachment campaign does not harm the underprivileged and needy.

“The big fishes, politicians involved in encroachment of the state land should be dealt with very strictly but on the other hand, it must be ensured that the move doesn’t have an adverse impact on the society’s poor,” Touseef appealed the LG administration.
