Srinagar, Nov 06: Clarifying his party’s stance on the controversial resolution for restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, Congress Party Leader and Whip Nizam-u-Din Bhat on Wednesday said that Congress has clear stance on resolution that it should be respected.
Speaking to reporters outside assembly, Bhat said that Congress has always upheld democratic norms and expects the same from all Assembly members.
On being asked about the disruptions that marred the Assembly proceedings, Bhat said that he was disappointed with some lawmakers’ behavior, which led to repeated adjournments.
“Once the resolution was moved, it was yet not admitted, and they rose to cause a pandemonium, not only pandemonium, they dishonored, undermined the respectability and sanctity of the house, which is not acceptable in any civilized behavior or in any form of democratic setup”, he added.
Bhat also said that the disruption not only delayed proceedings but also showed disrespect to the Speaker, who was elected with unanimous support.
“Three times the house had to be adjourned. They even showed disrespect for the Speaker in whose election they were part of,” Bhat said, questioning the intent behind the uproar.
Bhat said that Congress respects the Assembly’s role as a representative body and urged all members to uphold its dignity.
Congress stands by its position on the resolution, Bhat said, adding that it should be respected as a decision of the legislature.
