Jammu, July 18: The Army, under ‘Operation Trinetra’, achieved a major success by gunning down four heavily armed foreign terrorists in the dense forests near the Line of Control (LoC) in Surankote area of border district Poonch of Jammu region.
The fierce gunfight with terrorists broke out late yesterday afternoon when the Army and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) launched a joint operation on the basis of specific intelligence inputs about the presence of heavily armed terrorists in Sindhrah-Bachianwali and Maidana area of Surankote.
“The gunfight with the terrorists was so intense that the Army had to call special forces to augment the operation,” Commanding Officer , 39 RR, Neeraj Kumar, said, while talking to media persons.
He added, “The presence of terrorists in hinterland is indicative of attempts to destabilise the region, and if not neutralised in time, these terrorists could have carried out major terrorist attacks in coming days”.
The intermittent fire between terrorists and the troops continued till around 05:30 hours today morning in which four terrorists were killed.
Pertinent to mention , two terrorists were also killed yesterday by the Army and JKP in a joint operation in Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch.
The terrorists were planning to carry out a major attack in the area and with their elimination their plan was foiled.
In the operation, four Chinese made AK rifles and two Pakistani made Pistols were recovered by the forces. . The bodies of the slain terrorists have been recovered.
Two 9 mm Pistols with three magazines 24 rounds, four AK series Rifles with eight Magazines and 196 rounds were recovered by the security forces during the search operation which the foreign terrorists were carrying with them.
