In a landmark case that highlights the remarkable expertise and dedication of the Oncosurgery Team at Noora Hospital, Srinagar, a 70-year-old patient with a highly complex recurrent retroperitoneal sarcoma has successfully undergone a major surgery, previously deemed inoperable by multiple institutions. The patient, whose condition involved critical structures in the abdomen and a history of radiotherapy, was given little hope until seen by the skilled oncosurgery team at Noora Hospital.
Led by renowned cancer surgeons Dr. Amir M. Parray, Dr. Mudasir Bashir, and Dr. Asim M. Patloo, the surgical team undertook a challenging left compartment resection, which included an en bloc tumour excision along with right nephrectomy, right hemicolectomy, pancreas-preserving total duodenectomy, segmental inferior vena cava resection and psoas muscle resection. The intricacy of the operation required exceptional skill and meticulous planning, given the patient’s prior treatments and the involvement of several vital organs.
In close collaboration, the anaesthesia team, directed by Dr. Showkat Ahmad, Dr. Obaid, and Dr. Meesam, played a critical role in ensuring the patient’s stability throughout the procedure. Post-operatively, the patient was expertly managed in the Intensive Care Unit by a team of trained intensivists and dedicated ICU staff, underscoring the hospital’s comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to care.
After a successful recovery, the patient was discharged in a stable condition and is now undergoing post-operative rehabilitation at home. This case is a testament to the synergy between cancer surgical excellence, advanced anaesthesia, critical care, and the unwavering support from Noora Hospital’s administrative and hospital staff.
Dr. Amir M. Parray, on behalf of the entire team, expressed his gratitude for the collaborative effort that made this surgery a success. He emphasized that “such achievements reflect the strength of teamwork and expertise, the pillars of success in modern healthcare.”
This extraordinary case serves as a beacon of hope for patients facing complex cancers, reaffirming Noora Hospital’s commitment to providing cutting-edge medical care right here in the Kashmir Valley.
