Srinagar, Dec 08: National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah Friday visited the residence of slain Jammu and Kashmir Police inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani to pay his respects.
Wani, who was shot by a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist when he was playing cricket in Srinagar in October, died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday.
“JKNC VP Omar Abdullah pays respects at Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani’s home in Narwara, Srinagar,” the NC said in a post on X.
The former chief minister met Wani’s father and other family members and offered his heartfelt condolences and support, the party said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah expressed grief over the demise of Inspector Wani, a party statement issued here said.
In his condolence message, Dr Farooq said, “My heart goes out to the family of the slain police cop. There is no place for such abominable acts of violence. Such violence only leaves behind a trail of pain and misery. May the departed soul rest in Jannat.”
Omar said, “Deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sub-Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani. He put up a very brave fight after being injured when he was fired upon by militants in Srinagar recently while he was playing cricket with boys in his neighbourhood. My condolences to his loved ones & his colleagues. May Allah grant him a place in Jannat.”
