Jammu, Dec 21: National Conference (NC) senior leaders on Saturday said the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to empowering the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, former minister and NC General Secretary, and Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President addressed a joining programme held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu. The programme was organised under the leadership of Tejinder Pal Singh Aman, District President Jammu Urban NC, and witnessed the induction of several young members into the party, a statement issued here said.
Sadhotra expressed his gratitude to the youth for their faith in the National Conference’s vision. In his address, he emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, stating, “The National Conference government has always stood for creating avenues to uplift and empower the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. The need of the hour is to create new resources and opportunities for the younger generation to thrive in a competitive world,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said, “There is a dire need to launch comprehensive tourism development initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir with an aim to create new resources to tackle unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir. Such efforts will not only promote the region’s rich cultural heritage but also open up employment opportunities for the youth.”
Reiterating the National Conference’s manifesto pledge, he added, “Our party is committed to providing employment to one lakh youth in Jammu and Kashmir. To fulfill this promise, we have already initiated the recruitment process by directing various government departments to identify and fill vacancies promptly.”
The Provincial President also underscored the importance of empowering women through entrepreneurship. “The National Conference government strongly advocates for incentives that enable local women to establish small-scale ventures within their homes. This initiative aims to transform women into self-reliant entrepreneurs, enabling them to contribute to their families and the economy while managing their households,” he said.
Calling upon the newly inducted members to contribute to strengthening the party, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Provincial Secretary Jammu urged them to work tirelessly to reinforce the hands of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“Your active participation will help us build a stronger National Conference that can effectively address the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Tejinder Pal Singh Aman apprised senior party leaders about the pressing issues faced by the youth, including rising unemployment and the lack of opportunities due to “hollow policies” adopted by the previous regime. He called for a proactive approach to address these concerns and lauded the National Conference for its consistent efforts to uplift the younger generation.
