Jammu, July 10: National Secular Forum (NSF) paid tributes to Abdul Ghafoor on his 21st death anniversary at University Campus, who laid his life for the country. NSF members paid floral tributes and observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the great leader.A statement issued here said that Ankush Abrol, Provincial Joint Secretary National Conference and Former Member BCCI was the chief guest while, Dr. Vikas Sharma Coordinator Jammu district and Secretary Central Zone NC presided over the function and Vikshay Vashist, State Secretary NSF, was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion Ankush Abrol appreciated the initiative taken by the University Unit NSF to remember the death anniversary of those who have contributed their lives for the Country. He said that Ghafoor was an Indian freedom fighter and politician who served as the 13th Chief Minister of Bihar and served as cabinet minister in Gandhi’s government. He participated actively in freedom struggles and served jail terms. On this occasion, Dr Vikas Sharma threw light on the life history of Abdul Ghafoor and appreciated the efforts of NSF and appealed to the youth to come forward to eliminate all evils from the society. He also said that the right tribute to Abdul Ghafoor would be to launch the struggle for restoration of full status of J&K. Dr Sharma also said that Ghafoor died in Patna on July 10, 2004. His political legacy is being carried forward by Asif Ghafoor, his grandson.Vikshay Vashist, in his speech said that the sacrifices of such great people could not be ignored, which had secured freedom for the country and its people. He also said that Ghafoor was a part of the famous Young Turks of Bihar Congress during the independence movement along with Bindeshwari Dubey, Bhagwat Jha Azad, Chandrashekhar Singh, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, Kedar Pandey all future chief ministers and Sitaram Kesri, future national president of Indian National Congress. Irfan Ahmed Chairman University Unit delivered the welcome address, Gourav Partap Singh University Unit President was delivering the vote of thanks.
